emap - Senior Event Manager

April 2012 - July 2018

I started my time at emap as a temporary event assistant photocopying judging packs for the Retail Week Awards - I ended up staying over six years.

My final role at the company was Senior Event Manager, where I headed up the events team for our health and local government portfolio. I left to move back up north and leave my London life behind.

My role and experience included:

  • Managing a portfolio of 45+ events annually, spanning print and digital publications — from intimate roundtables to large-scale conferences.

  • Leading the operations team, assigning resource and roles across the year, setting responsibilities, developing KPI’s and PDP’s to build a skilled, confident team of event professionals.

  • Designing project plans for every event cycle, balancing realistic timelines with firm deadlines. Coordinating effective interdepartmental collaboration with content, marketing, sales, sponsorship, editorial, and design teams to keep every project on schedule.

  • Managing sizable budgets across the portfolio, producing weekly budget reports, driving cost-saving initiatives when needed, and managing portfolio-wide revenue targets.

  • Working with venues and suppliers to negotiate contracts and source required services required for each event.

  • Leading events, marketing, and content teams onsite to ensure smooth collaboration and deliver world-class experiences.

  • Partnering closely with sales to secure sponsorship and exhibitor deals, acting as primary operational contact,. We often created bespoke sponsorship packages to help partners achieve their commercial goals.

  • Throughout my time I gained hands-on experience in AV and production, delegate management, stand design and build, branding and signage design/installation, supplier management, and end-to-end event operations.
